The concept of FotoSan

FotoSan works with LAD, a treatment based on a combination of a photosensitizer and a powerful red light. The principle of LAD is also known as PACT, Photodynamic Antimicrobial Chemo Therapy. LAD works by the photosensitizer attaching to the membranes of microorganisms and absorbing energy from the light. It thereby releases energy to oxygen, which is then transformed into highly reactive oxygen species like ions and radicals. These destroy the microorganisms instantly and effectively.

Treatment with FotoSan

The antibacterial treatment with FotoSan is fast and easy to apply and has no side effects at all. It shows promising indications in the treatment of:

• Endodontitis


• Periodontitis


• Periimplantitis


• Pericoronitis


• Gingivitis


• Caries

The principle of light activated disinfection is effective against bacteria, as well as other types of microorganisms like virus, fungus and protozoa. No negative side effects have been noted, since the applied photosensitizers have far less affinity to mammal cells. As a result of this, light activated disinfection has a lot of advantages compared to both chemical disinfectants and traditional antibiotic treatments.
